Peace Dove

For Peace and war cannot occupy the same space. War must burn out it's fire before peace can return. Up and out of the ashes much like a phoenix, Peace has risen to spread harmony, kindness, balance, and prosperity.
I used a young woman of mixed race to represent the peace dove (a common symbol of peace) because peace resides in acceptance and tolerance. What could be more pure existence of acceptance than creating a new life from differences.
The use of symbolism in this piece I borrowed from Christianity and Greek Mythology in regards to body posture, the gold / silver metallic aura and the ashes / destruction.

Who has the bigger problem? Is it the raven or the balloon? The glass dome keeps the raven from the balloon. The same glass dome protecting the balloon from the raven is keeping the balloon from floating freely.

The Raven – represents a craving we desire.
The Balloon – is our fear of taking chances that we might be harmed.
The Glass – the invisible barrier keeping us from what we want.

This piece is inspired by the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, but in my version it’s not determination that the Tortoise uses to win the race. Instead, it is logic, education and science.

The Hare – represents the traditional way things have always been done.
The Rocket – science and advancements in knowledge.
The Belt – sometimes you need a little creative imagination and repurpose something that can still be useful.

Inspired by the story of Pandora’s Box, this painting is from the perspective of Hope before the box was opened. Showing that with Hope, strength resides in quiet and calm confidence that adversity and tragedy will pass and can be conquered.
I chose a young girl to represent Hope because children are humanity’s hope of the future and little girls grow up to become women to bring forth more children, more Hope.

Metaphorically, the glasses are people.
Each glass container has 8 oz of water in them. Some of the containers are overflowing, while in others it barely makes a difference. Even though everything is made of glass, they are designed for different purposes; one thing does not work for all. Yet they are each beautiful in their own right and designed for a unique purpose. The reflections and translucency affect how we see each individual container depending how close they are to each other there for distorting their purpose.
